![]() ![]() In 1917, by the time she was 29 years old, "I Want You" became famous. A sensation, each Floradora girl was said to have married a millionaire. The "Floradora girls" were the hit of the show - a "sextette of tall, gorgeous damsels, clad in pink walking costumes, black picture hats and carrying frilly parasols who swished onto the stage and captivated New York for no other reason than they were utterly stunning" ("tall and gorgeous" translated to 5'4"). ![]() A huge success in London - opening in 1899 and running for 455 performances - the musical was even more successful in New York - running for 552 performances. In 1900, Nora was merely 12 years old when when Floradora opened on Broadway. They arrived on the ships Excelsior and Portland, bringing vast quantities of gold - over $32,000,000 in today's money - and everyone rushed to become rich in the Yukon. In 1897, Nora was merely 9 years old when on July 17th, the Klondike Gold Rush began when the first successful prospectors returned to Seattle after mining in the Yukon. When he improved on the first version and published it 5 years later, Gregg shorthand became popular. In 1888, in the year that Nora Riley was born, Irishman John Robert Gregg published a pamphlet in the U.S., teaching his first version of shorthand - Gregg shorthand.
